The town has been called Bad Bibra since 1925, after bathing tourism had increased in the 19th century. The Unstrut, navigable since the Middle Ages, was once the center of trade. In the 19th century, bathing tourism flourished again, and since 1925 the former Bibra has been called Bad Bibra. During the 1848 revolution (German Revolution 1848/49), the city was one of the most important rebellion areas in Prussian Thuringia (province of Saxony). The state-approved resort of Bad Bibra is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt.
