In 1848, the city was one of the most important rebellion areas in Prussian Thuringia (Province of Saxony) during the revolution (German Revolution 1848/49). At the beginning of the 9th century, Bibra was first mentioned as Bibraho in a list of the goods of the Hersfeld Monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus of Mainz († 786). The former street village of Laucha an der Unntrut is located on the old Langensalza-Freyburg-Merseburg military road. The sights include the town hall from 1543 with the double-barreled, covered outside staircase that was added later and old portals on the town houses.
