The city is not far from the state border with Thuringia in the valley of the Biberbach. In the 19th century, bathing tourism flourished again, and since 1925 the former Bibra has been called Bad Bibra. Worth mentioning is the town church of St. Marien, a late Gothic building from the 15th century with Romanesque remains (block frieze on the south-east side of the church). The first mention of the city at the beginning of the 9th century is in a register of the goods of the Hersfeld monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus of Mainz († 786). Her name there is Bibraho.
