The state border with the Free State of Thuringia runs not far from the city. The city lies on the beaver creek. At the beginning of the 9th century, Bibra was first mentioned as Bibraho in a list of the goods of the Hersfeld Monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus of Mainz († 786). In the 19th century, bathing tourism flourished again, and since 1925 the former Bibra has been called Bad Bibra. The sights include the town hall from 1543 with the double-barreled, covered outside staircase that was added later and old portals on the town houses. One of the city's sights is the Laucha Bell Museum, which was founded as a bell foundry by master bell founder Ulrich in 1732 and operated as such until 1911.
