The former street village of Laucha is located on the old Langensalza-Freyburg-Merseburg military road. In 1848, the city was one of the most important rebellion areas in Prussian Thuringia (Province of Saxony) during the revolution (German Revolution 1848/49). The city is not far from the state border with Thuringia in the valley of the Biberbach. The city was first mentioned in a document at the beginning of the 9th century in the register of the goods of the Hersfeld Monastery, built by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz. There she is referred to as Bibraho.
